Every woman experiences pregnancy differently. Some women feel every symptom immediately. While others hardly feel any. The most common symptom is a missed period, but if your monthly cycle is usually irregular, you may still wonder.
Come to Women’s Care Mary’s Center to confirm your pregnancy. We offer no-cost pregnancy testing and a limited ultrasound. We can get you the answers you need.
What Are the Common Symptoms?
According to the Mayo Clinic, the following are typically the first signs of pregnancy:
- A missed period
However, you can skip your period if you’ve been under a lot of stress, increased exercise, recently lost or gained a lot of weight, or have hormonal issues. - Tender, swollen breasts
Hormonal changes cause your breasts to become tender. You may also notice a darkening of the areolas (the area around the nipples). - Nausea with or without vomiting
Pregnancy nausea is often referred to as “morning sickness,” although it can occur at any time, day or night. - Increased urination
During pregnancy, blood flow increases, causing your kidneys to process extra fluid. A urinary tract infection can also cause the need to urinate more frequently. - Fatigue
A rapid rise in pregnancy hormones could be causing you to feel sleepy. Of course, there are also many other reasons to experience fatigue.
How Do I Find Out if I’m Pregnant?
To determine pregnancy, you need to start with a pregnancy test. You can purchase tests from several stores or pharmacies. Or, come to Women’s Care Mary’s Center for free pregnancy testing.
Although over-the-counter pregnancy tests are reliable, there are particular steps you need to follow to get accurate results:
- Make sure the test date has not expired.
- Take the test a few days after your missed period.
- Follow the directions carefully.
- Take the test in the morning when your urine is most concentrated.
Can I Trust the Results?
An at-home test is reliable If you’ve followed the directions carefully. However, a pregnancy test is only an indication of pregnancy. We recommend getting a limited ultrasound.
An ultrasound confirms if the pregnancy is growing or if you have had a miscarriage. Experts estimate as many as 26% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage, and 80% of those happen in the first 12 weeks. It’s possible to get a positive pregnancy test days or even weeks after miscarrying.
An ultrasound also confirms how far along you are in your pregnancy and its location. Once you have verified your pregnancy, it’s time to discuss your options.
