How do I know if I need an ultrasound?
If you’ve already taken a pregnancy test and received a positive result, an ultrasound is the next step. Ultrasounds are important in determining your health status and can help you make decisions about your pregnancy moving forward.
The ultrasound will help you know:
- Is your pregnancy ectopic? An ectopic pregnancy is a dangerous condition where a pregnancy is located in a spot other than the uterus. Ectopic pregnancies can be detected early on to reduce health complications.
- Is your pregnancy viable? A limited obstetrical ultrasound can help medical professionals rule out miscarriage by detecting a heartbeat, even very early on in your pregnancy.
- How far along is your pregnancy? This determines what kind of abortion you may be eligible for if considering abortion, or can help you get referrals to or medical supplies such as prenatal vitamins.
