Why a sonogram is important if you think you’re pregnant
The first step when you think you’re pregnant is to take a pregnancy test and have a sonogram/ultrasound. The process is simple and stress free: a specially trained medical professional called a sonographer will guide you through. The sonographer will determine three important things:
- Is your pregnancy viable? Miscarriages are common early on in pregnancy. The sonogram will confirm whether your pregnancy is developing well.
- How far along are you? Depending on how far along your pregnancy is, the sonographer will recommend next steps, refer you to a doctor, provide prenatal vitamins, and more free services and referrals.
- Is your pregnancy ectopic? In some rare cases, pregnancies can have extreme complications that need immediate medical attention. That’s why an ultrasound is always necessary when you think you may be pregnant.
